Learning some fighting techniques in regards to self-defense is essential to survival. By learning a variety of martial arts skills and combat techniques, you can increase your overall arsenal of defensive maneuvers and attacks. With enough training, you will never become part of your local crime statistics.

The decision to learn fighting techniques for self defense may be intended for people with inherent meanness, ignorance, peer pressure, simple boredom and intention of doing criminal acts on you. These people may have an advantage of physical strength, weapon or number over you. While you may perceive violence as pointless, it becomes inevitable and more acceptable when it means to help you survive assailants or random attacks. In the event of high stress situations, you only have two choices; either you become a victim or a casualty. You need to be prepared on how to put yourself out of danger. In most self defense classes, the instructors would teach his students how to handle situations where they will handle armed assailants. He will cover the basic techniques in fighting against an assailant with a knife, gun or who is much larger that yourself. But the problem with conventional self defense classes is that they focus on situations with only one assailant. So, what happens when you encounter more?

When fighting more than one assailant is not feasible on traditional self defense classes, martial arts classes will teach you how to remain in control with your surroundings, including the necessity of dealing with more than one assailant at times. Learning various combinations of martial arts like judo, sambo, jujitsu, muay tai and other disciplines that are fitted to your physical strength and attributes will keep you on guard at all times.

Absent-mindedness is the classic characteristic of a victim. Your martial arts training should teach you to always be aware of your surroundings. And even if you are well trained and able to defend yourself in case of attacks, your lessons will also teach you some common sense like keeping away from deserted and dark areas and taking routes where there are more people to keep yourself from danger.

If in case a fight is inevitable, here are simple self-defense moves that you can easily remember during high stress situations. First, strike first. Channel your rage by tearing your opponent. Do all the powerful moves that you have learned in class. You can do more than punches, scratch your assailant with your long nails and stab him with your car keys. Did you remember what Mike Tyson did? Bite the ear of your assailant, perhaps it will be enough for him to stop. But no matter what you do, do not ever let your battle go onto the ground. Arm bar your assailant to keep yourself from getting crushed on the ground, breaking your bones or knocking you unconscious. Always be on your feet, even if that means that you have to bite your attacker’s neck.

Remember, you need to keep your eyes open and your mind focused to avoid getting hurt. Train as much as you can to practice the best of your ability and so they will come in auto pilot when the next assailant comes.
